The job interview with your potential employer is arguably the most important step of your employment process. So you will want to be best prepared and ready for these job interviews. In the past, interviews were carried out via phone, but today most interviews happen through video chat applications such as Skype. This post provides some tips on how to prepare for your interview and how to behave during your interview.

Before the interview

Do a little research about the school or institution that you are applying for. Also, know the basics about Korea and the region that you would be going to
Make sure your webcam and microphone are working properly with a sound check and mike check.
Add your interviewer’s Skype ID in advance if available.
Keep your resume and cover letter at hand in case the employer asks you about certain details from your documents. It would not leave a good impression on the employer if you cannot remember the details of your resume.
Have a glass of water ready in case your mouth gets dry.
Have a pen and paper ready for notetaking.
Dress professionally and sit in a place with good lighting so your employer can see you properly. Also, clear your room of any distractions by turning of the TV and radio. Also, make sure your friends, family or pets are not going to disturb your interview.
Write down any questions you have regarding the job (curriculum, books, students, etc.), but not the benefits. We will provide you with all the information regarding benefits.
Be ready 10~15 minutes before the interview, log in to Skype or have your phone ready next to you.

During the interview

Speak slowly and enunciate clearly because the sound quality of Skype interviews can often be of low.
Use the interviewer’s title (Mr. or Ms. And their last name). Only call them by first name if they ask you to.
Smile and try to look as positive as possible. Positivity and brightness are big pluses.
Do not chew gum, eat, lean on your hand, or any other gestures that may be distracting to the interviewer.
Listen carefully to the interviewer and try not to interrupt. Let the interviewer know that you are paying attention to what the interviewer is saying.
Respond informatively and actively rather than just answering with “yes” or “no”. Let the interviewer know that you have been preparing for the interview. Also, have a list of your accomplishments ready to use.
Take your time to answer the questions. Think about your answer and compose your thoughts before answering. Taking a moment to think about the question is completely acceptable.
Answer the questions in a professional manner. Show the school that you are professional. Brightness and professionalism will give you the edge you need to be selected above other candidates.

After the interview

Remember to say "thank you”
Make sure that the phone line or skype call is over before having a personal conversation or talking about the interview.
